Yehey!!!

You can do it!!!

hug! hug!

These are the words that usually a parent would say to their children in every achievement they make. As a single parent of all boys that includes my 1 year old baby now. I believe the most greatest achievement a child would make and starts at home is learning to walk on his own. Who parent would be not be proud seeing their baby take that steps with open arms and with the smile you can’t resist.

With all my children this time with my youngest Calvin is different. Why did I said so? My lucky baby boy learned to walk without any help using a walker or gears for walking. I’m a advocate of breastfeeding and “Say No to Baby Walkers”.  Common practice once our baby learn how stand on his own we try to put them on walkers to be able to learn to walk. But now with my youngest I told myself that I will not use any walker just to be able to learn to walk. I didn’t pressure him to learn to walk. I know that every child has it’s own phase of milestones. Comparing to other babies is a big No-No for parents.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends against using walkers because they can be dangerous and can discourage your child from learning to walk on his own. Thousands of babies end up in emergency rooms and doctor’s offices from being in walkers and falling off stairs or bumping into furniture. Walkers can give parents a false impression that their babies are truly mobile and can control their actions. Some parents even leave their babies alone to navigate their way around the home while trapped in a walker. Exersaucers, as well as door jumpers, are much safer alternatives, but neither leads to your child learning to walk earlier than usual. Interestingly enough, studies have shown that children who use walkers may actually learn to walk later than those who don’t.

With lots of positive reinforcement and constant monitoring my baby had learned to walk on his own and with full of self-confidence. Also with the support of the people around him he gained to believe in his own capabilities. Everything will be worth it as parents and people around in such great achievement of a child. This will be his stepping stone to future achievements. We all know that every foundation of a person is in his childhood and always starts at home.

As a parent I try to record and take pictures of every milestones my children have. Our children grow fast and you never know it they already working or had their own family. So don’t ever waste those precious moments with your child. Believe me you won’t regret and everything will be worth it in the end.

I like to share my baby Calv first few moments he tried to walk by himself and you can clearly see in his face that heis happy. Even he had fallen many times but with the positive reinforcement he got persistent in learning on his own.  Never been proud of my child because I know without my help and support he won’t gain the confidence in him.
