World Vision to host interfaith National Prayer Assembly

Child-focused advocacy organization World Vision will host its first interfaith prayer assembly onNovember 9, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum from 8:00am to 11:00pm.

The event dubbed Mahal ko ang Pilipinas: National Prayer Assembly”, will be the largest gathering of World Vision stakeholders and partners, with an expected attendance of 12,000 participants. Gracing the event are top government and religious leaders, including His Excellency President Benigno Simeon Aquino III and newly-appointed Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.

Through the said event, World Vision hopes to unite people of different faiths and religious denominations to pray for the country and its leaders. World Vision Executive Coordinator for Christian Witness Pastor Joey Umali shares: “the National Prayer Assembly is a way of celebrating our anniversary by committing to prayers our national leaders headed by the President. We want to have a transformed Philippines for the sake of Filipino children.”

The programme includes prayer intentions for the leaders of different government bureaucracies and departments, for non-government organizations (NGOs), for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), for media organizations, for the Filipino families, for the children and the youth, and for peace and economic stability for the country. 

Also joining the event are various Catholic, Christian and Muslim congregations and leaders, notably Manila Catholic Archbishop Most Rev. Luis Antonio G. Tagle, D.D., former WV Chair of the Board Bishop Deogracias Iñiguez D.D., former sponsored child Bishop Leo P. Alconga of the Philippines for Jesus Movement, Bishop Jonel Milan, D.D. President of K4 Philippines the official organizer of the National Prayer Assembly, Bishop Fred Magbanua of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches and Judge Aleem Aboali T. Cali and Sheikh Ahmad G. Ampuan of the Ulama League of the Philippines, as well as celebrities Gary Valenciano and World Vision advocates Nikki Gil and Sam Concepcion.

The prayer assembly culminates World Vision Philippines’ 55th Anniversary celebration, with the theme, “Sharing the Joy of Hope.” Admission is free.
