The Watch – Movie Review

Just came from a premier of “The Watch” starring Ben Stailer at Robinson Galleria. Its been a long the the last time I watch a movie at Robinson Galleria. I go out to watch a movie when I know if worth my interest and time. I been a fan of Ben Stiller ever since from the “Meet the Fockers” to “Night at the Museum”. I know that he deliver comedy so natural in such a way that tickle my funny bones.

The Watch is a science fiction comedy film that it about a “neighborhood watch” as we call it here in the Philippines “Barangay Tanod”. Its goes that the Ben Stiller as Evan a community guy that is very active in his community.  He is also the Manager of the very well known wholesale store in the States “Costco”. One night one of his security guard Antonio Guzman that just received his American Citizenship was killed while on his graveyard shift. Now that Evan was concerned and it happened inside his store he is eager to know who killed Antonio. During the halftime of the football game he campaigned justice for Antonio and to put up a neighborhood watch for their community. He invited people to come and join him in his campaign. As the movie goes only 3 suburban guys showing up to join Evan to volunteer for the watch they are Vince Vaughn as Bob,  Jonah Hill as Franklin and  Richard Ayoade as Jamarcus.

They have lots of difference and interest but still they committed themselves to be the neighborhood watch. At first they not yet focused about being the watch and just wanted to have free time from their own frustrations in life. There’s also a cop  Will Forte as Sgt. Bressman that always act as a bully cop in the story. To make the story short and not to ruin the story they discovered what killed Antonio and the other people killed during the story.

Verdict: As a Sci-Fi comedy film with Ben Stiller made the story kinda realistic. The reason why I said that being a neighborhood watch and being with the other volunteers  you will encounter different personalities and you need to get along with them. But with one goal to be a neighborhood watch they come to be a team in the end and defending humanity and against bad people. This are the kind of people we need in our community that is dedicated for the safety of his own neighborhood. That we need to be thankful that they are here for us. I like the movie its have a hidden message to it even with sci-fi comedy theme to it. Try to think of it there is a possibility such scenario can happen to true life. If that would happen its a good thing that we have neighborhood watch that is concern for its community and a good Evan is what we need.

As Evan said from the start of the movie saying to Antonio Guzman before he is killed “Good Things happen to Good people”. As Evan a good person he became successful as being “The Watch”.
